Keeping warm and safe

It’s been pretty cold, so here’s some advice on keeping warm and safe at the same time.

* Any device designed to keep you warm should not be left unattended, so keep an eye on anything you have left switched on.

* Electric blankets wear out, control switches begin to malfunction, and the coverings on the wires wear thin – if in doubt dump it before it’s too late.

* Never go to bed leaving an open fire burning and even when you are around remember to use a fire guard.

* Extension leads should be fully unwound – leaving them coiled can cause a heat build-up. Check that you are not overloading circuits.

* Check that your gas cylinders close properly. - Weekend Argus
