Always a crowd favourite, the annual al-fresco uMhlanga Carols by Candlelight, takes place at the Granada Square in uMhlanga Rocks on December 15.

The second event of the 2016 uMhlanga Summer Festival, is the season’s only evening event, and takes place under the stars in the courtyard of the hottest spot on the uMhlanga Strip.

The concert is co-ordinated by Shelley McLean and Leigh Meyer, and hosted by the charming Katy Moore with gorgeous vocalist Haylea Hounsom performing as the guest soloist.

Joining them on stage will be the effervescent team of tap dancers led by the gorgeous Leigh Meyer. Meyer’s students will do an enchanting reindeer number that promises to delight the crowds. Two budding stars, Grace McIlroy and Roxy Thornton will steal the limelight for a number by themselves.

Another piece sure to impress will be Ethan Dunk and Kelly Milne with microphones in-hand serenading the audience.

Moore, Housom and Meyer are taking time out of their rehearsal schedule for the Frozen-inspired sumptuous KickstArt annual family panto, Sleeping Beauty: Katy Moore plays the wicked witch; Haylea Hounsom plays the Princess and Leigh Meyer is a dancer.

Chairman of the uMhlanga Tourism Committee, Peter Rose said, “Being a part of a Carols Concert always is an uplifting way to start the festive season. Hearing and singing the good old songs certainly makes you reminisce about all the fabulous Christmases of years gone by, and of course, anticipate the one ahead!”

Father Christmas will be arriving in style riding on the back of a shiny Harley Davidson. Carollers are invited to bring a toy that will be gifted to an under privileged-child coordinated by uMhlanga Rotary.

Rose urged, “We ask that everyone attending the carols, please bring a gift that will be donated to children less fortunate at Christmas time. Our hard-working team at the uMhlanga Rotary have identified homes where the gifts will go to, hopefully adding some joy to their young lives,”

Getting the festive cheer rolling, the audience is invited to sing along to the ol’ favourites like Away in a Manger; Joy to the World; Silent Night; Once in Royal David’s City and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

The event is free to attend and starts at 6.45pm. Parents are invited to bring along their children from 6pm for some pre-concert entertainment in the square.

Begin the festive spirit at this year’s uMhlanga Carols by Candlelight on Thursday 15 December at Granada Square.
