Cape Town - A total of 14 854 pupils in the Western Cape wrote isiXhosa paper two on Tuesday, while two wrote isiZulu and three Portuguese.

Napaseka Rum, from Sithembele Matiso Secondary School, who plans to study foundation phase teaching next year, said she was thoroughly prepared for the isiXhosa home language paper and no question caught her off-guard.

Bongiwe Mngomezulu, from Camps Bay High School, wrote isiXhosa first additional language, which she said had a good balance of questions.

“I want to study theatre and performance next year and bring more of my culture and heritage on to the stage. I do not think that there are enough plays that showcase South Africa’s indigenous culture, which will make for stunning visuals,” Mngomezulu said.

On Wednesday, about 41 000 pupils are due to write Afrikaans and 2 636 will write civil technology. The last exam paper will be written on November 27.

On January 5, it is expected that Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga will announce the results.
