London - She has been known to change her own hairstyle up to three times a day.
But Katie Price has faced a backlash on social media after she used straighteners on her eight-year-old daughter’s hair.
The former glamour model, 37, was accused of damaging Princess Tiaamii’s natural curls with the styling tool which can reach 190C.
Glenn Lyons, of Philip Kingsley Clinic in London, which treats hair loss, said: “Straightening is the worst thing you can do to your hair short of using chemicals.
“Hair straighteners produce the highest intensity of heat of all appliances. They can cause trichorrhexis nodosa, where weak points along the hairs appear – and it is not treatable … the hair will break. If [Princess] were to get this, it could take two years for her hair to grow out.”
The reality TV star responded to online criticism with a photo of Disney character Rapunzel and suggested that critics were simply jealous of her daughter.
It is not the first time Miss Price’s parenting choices have come under fire. Princess’s father Peter Andre has previously voiced disapproval over his ex-wife straightening his daughter’s hair.
Just days ago the mother of five was castigated for piercing the ears of 17-month-old daughter Bunny, with some of her followers on social media even likening it to “child abuse”.
Weeks earlier, her photo of Princess wearing mascara and bright pink lipstick received a barrage of criticism. The latest row began when Miss Price posted photos of Princess’s straight hair – writing that her daughter was “soo lucky to have natural long blonde hair #family” and “My little beauty”.
Less than a day later, the pictures had received around 1 000 comments. Cherie White wrote: “Would be better if * stopped putting straighteners on it.” A user called Rach added: “Please don’t ruin her beautiful curls!” But Lynda Knight wrote: “She’s like a life size barbie doll...gorgeous!”
Miss Price defended her decision to pierce Bunny’s ears, saying on ITV’s Loose Women last week: “She looks really cute.”
A spokesperson for Miss Price declined to comment further.
