Rush Productions presents the first ever Saturday Social Club, a rock ‘n roll musical events that kicks off tonight at the Red Roman Shed at Emperors Palace.
The festival will feature homegrown rock ‘n roll bands with the aim of celebrating the culture of Rock ‘n Roll in Mzansi. Music giants that will be featured are Prime Circle, Fokofpolisiekar, The Narrow, The Parlotones, Just Jinger and up-and- coming talents like Dirty Moonshine, The Sweet Resistance and Six String Stories.
According to Nic Rush of Rush Productions, he says the festival will also showcase some of the best SA music heavyweights with some of the top up-and- comings.
Speaking to Prime Circle’s frontman Ross Learmoth, he says the group is excited to be showcasing tomorrow and the team plans to take the audience on a musical ride.
“It is great being part of the show. Going back to the East Rand is always special because we always feel there is a beautiful love for music in those parts.
Celebrating Rock music for the group is a special inclusion and brings variety to the many festivals that play in South Africa.
“Music in general is always a changing thing in the world, where people get tired of it and then it comes back. That is how it is with Rock ‘n Roll especially in SA where it is a trickier market.”
But being able to keep themselves relevant over the years has been a mystery to them as well.
“We will be bringing new music from our new album and a whole lot of variety from the old songs,” said Ross .
The first three shows of the series that have been revealed are:
14 April – PRIME CIRCLE, Dirty Moonshine, Six String Stories
9 June – FOKOFPOLISIEKAR, The Sweet Resistance
4 August – THE NARROW, CrashCarBurn, Newtown Knife Gang
