Arts festival will nurture local talent

Masakhane Arts and Culture Youth Development Project is to host its 17th arts festival from Saturday to Sunday, December 10 at the Emndeni Youth Centre in Soweto.

The event, initiated in an effort to discourage youth involvement in crime and to help to address issues such as teenage pregnancy and HIV/Aids, will also form part of the World Aids Day commemoration.

The festival will focus on developing amateur music, theatre and dance.

Skill-development workshops such as event and project management will also be available.

Participants will be given a chance to showcase their talent, while professional artists such as Thulani Didi, Freddie Gwala, Papa Makhene, Duma Mnembe and Bongumusa Mabaso will offer training sessions.

Top South African artists like Pitch Black Afro, Amaponi, Mshoza, Purity, Mzambiya, Sunshine will be also performing.

One of the highlights of the event is the involvement of the Moving Into Dance Mophatong Dance Company.

This renowned company will be conducting professional, intensive training in Afro-fusion dance, choreography and various creative workshops.
