Get ready to take a trip down memory lane as Roxette set the stage alight in Johannesburg on Friday, February 28.
Swedish pop-rock group comprises frontman, songwriter and founder Per Gessle as well as Lena Philipsson who replaced former Roxette’s lead vocalist, Marie Fredriksson, who died from cancer five years ago.
The rest of the band consists of Christoffer Lundquist, Magnus Börjeson, Magnus “Norpan” Eriksson, and Dea Norberg as well as original Roxette members, Clarence Öfwerman and Jonas Isacsson.
They have earned widespread fame across the globe over almost four decades for their classic hits such as “It Must Have Been Love”, “Listen to Your Heart,” “How Do You Do”, “Fading Like A Flower” and “Joyride”, among other chart-topping hits.
Fans will be delighted to know that Gessle will revive Roxette's extensive catalogue featuring songs he has written as he takes the band back on stage to perform for Joburgers.
“This is all about my Roxette songs, this huge bundle of music and lyrics I’ve been writing for well over three decades,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Philipsson has also expressed her excitement about Roxette’s tour.
“I’m excited and thrilled about embarking on this tour. I really look forward to working with Per, he is a phenomenal songwriter and a never-ending musical force.”
The group’s South African concerts are brought to Mzansi by Big Concerts South Africa, in association with Smile FM and Powered by Hot 102.7 FM
Roxette’s Joburg show comes after the group performed at the Mother City’s Grand Arena, GrandWest on Wednesday, February 26. After taking to the stage in the City of Gold, they will then head to Durban, where they will perform on Saturday, March 1.
