Great news for Joe Barber fans! Due to overwhelming demand, additional dates have been added for the 25th anniversary celebrations of this iconic local comedy.

You can now catch the hilarious adventures of Boeta Joe, Boeta Gamat, Washiela and Outjie on Wednesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 17, at GrandWest, Cape Town.

The newly added shows come after the almost sold out performances for Friday, October 18, and Saturday, October 19.

Joe Barber first hit the stage in 1999 at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, with its Cape Town debut following shortly after.

Created by Oscar Petersen and David Isaacs, the show quickly became a sensation, thanks to its relatable humour, rich storytelling and vibrant characters that reflect the heart of Cape Town's communities.

The beloved characters took everyday experiences from local neighbourhoods and turned them into comedy gold, making Joe Barber a cultural staple.

The show follows the antics of Boeta Joe and Boeta Gamat, who run a barbershop where colourful customers drop by for haircuts and a good laugh. From the fast-talking Washiela to the ever-clueless Outjie, these characters have been beloved for their humour and relatability.

Petersen said: “The lives of Gamat, Joe, Washiela and Outjie have become ingrained in the hearts of our fans, and we feel extremely fortunate to still feel the love!”

Isaacs added: “Joe Barber was conceptualised in Cape Town, it takes place in Cape Town, and for us, it makes sense that the 25th anniversary is launched right here in the Mother City.”

Over the years, Joe Barber has grown into one of South Africa’s longest-running and most beloved comedy productions.

From its humble beginnings to sold-out venues across the country, the show’s unique ability to capture the essence of everyday life has kept audiences coming back for more.

The previous anniversary shows were nothing short of spectacular. Not only did the audience get to enjoy the characters but the production also included some surprise guests that had everyone buzzing.

Local comedians and celebrities often make appearances, adding extra flavour to the event. At past shows, personalities like Marc Lottering and and the late Shaleen Surtie-Richards joined Joe Barber.
