A memorial service is being held to honour the life and legacy of beloved radio presenter, preacher and Crown Gospel Music Awards founder, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule.

The service, is taking place at the SABC offices in Durban is attended by family, friends, colleagues from UkhoziFM, and listeners who had been touched by her ministry.

Mbokazi-Nkambule is being celebrated for her unwavering faith and her ability to connect with people through the airwaves.

The atmosphere, is filled with both sorrow and gratitude as speakers share personal stories of how she impacted their lives.

Speakers for the memorial include officials from the KwaZulu Natal Government, the EThekwini Municipality, Mayor Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda and Department of Sport, Arts and Culture’s Deputy Minister, Ms Peace Mabe.

A speaker from her church with Bishop ND Nhlapo offering words of support to the families. Gospel artsists Unathi Sthole, Ntokozo Ngongoma, Sgwili & Babo, Sphumele Mbambo are just some of artists who have performed at the memorial.

The Crown Gospel Music Awards founder passed away early on Monday morning after battling with lung cancer.

Her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, shared a statement announcing her death.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we the Nkambule and Mbokazi family announce the passing of our beloved Ms Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, founder of Crown Gospel Music Awards & Ukhozi FM radio personality,” read the statement.

Even though the entrepreneur was diagnosed with lung cancer in May, her illness became apparent in April.
