After two years, Sonia Booth is divorced from former footballer and football pundit Matthew Booth, after the decree was granted a week ago.

Sonia’s ex filed for divorce on November 9, 2022 after she spilt the tea on his then alleged affair with Bongani Mthombeni.

The businesswoman told IOL that the lengthy process “was a distraction from areas and things I wanted to focus on, things that mattered to me the most.

“The legal matters took time away from the boys (when they needed me the most), it took time away from work (when I needed the money the most), it had me in limbo, I felt shackled on my hands and feet.”

On November 7, 2022 Sonia took to her social media accounts and exposed her husband's alleged cheating. Booth had baked a cheesecake, but by the morning, the cake was gone. She said he’d made it for his alleged lover.

Her social media posts detailed how the ex-soccer player had an almost one-year-long relationship. She detailed how she hired a private investigator and used her car’s tracking device to expose the alleged affair.

The whole drama was such a hot trending topic, it even landed her on Google’s Year in Search 2022 list of South Africa: Trending People.

The biggest lesson she has from the divorce proceedings is a quote she heard from a friend; “You won’t truly know a person until you go through a divorce”.

She if she will be dropping the last name Booth, Sonia is still deciding. “I wished to revert to Pule but my mother disagrees. I will also consider my spiritual mother and father’s advice…”

The mom of two launched her business Marula Cheesecake Passion; alcoholic ice cream frozen yoghurt, liqueur, alcoholic popcorn.

Launched last year, on Valentine’s Day, a labour of love (no pun intended), she calls it and her business has been well supported and she is ready to scale with the interest being a testament.

“Establishing a new brand, in a tough (alcohol) industry is not for the faint-hearted. It requires you to work almost double of a normal shift, it requires determination, relentlessness, dedication, discipline and consistency.”
