On Thursday at the Radisson RED Rooftop in Rosebank,

Content creators, media and well known internet personalities gathered this week in Rosebank for the DStv Content Creator Awards nominee announcement event.

The annual awards event, which celebrates the best and brightest content creators, unveiled the nominees for this year’s awards to celebrate and recognise excellence across 17 categories, alongside an additional new award category.

The new award category is the “Spirit of Africa Award”, presented by Amarula Premium African Gin. This award celebrates content that embodies the essence of Africa.

Among the categories, five will be open for public voting, allowing fans to choose who they want to take home the awards.

While most creators are being nominated for the first time, some creators who were nominated last year are nominated again this year.

The likes of Kefilwe Mabote and Mush Kitchen who emerged victorious last year, have made a comeback being nominated again.

Chris Rodgers, Siv Ngesi, Sifo the cooking husband, Khanyisa unfiltered,Darren Campher, Manz Not Hot, Shandor Larenty, Nabilah Kariem and being some of the creators to be nominated in more than one category.

Manuela Dias de Deus, founder of the DSTV Content Creator Awards and Managing Director of ‘One Eyed Jack’ shared how she felt a lot of people felt like it was very hard during covid and lockdown.

Going on to say that content creators were the ones that got her through, lightening and brightening her day.

A couple of months down the line she went to an advertising awards event and she thought about how all of these brands are using creators in their campaigns, but there are no awards events out there celebrating content creators.

That is how the idea of the content creators awards was born.

“Whilst initially the awards were created to celebrate content creators because they make us feel good, it’s now so much more than that. Content creators are using their social media for good, to mobilise communities.

“We are celebrating people who are doing incredible work, who work incredibly hard and essentially the new marketing platform for brands.

“These awards were created and exist in order to create an ecosystem for creators to learn how to monetise their content and get recognised for brand work and essentially to create a place for creators to be within South Africa”
