News of the passing of renowned South African actress Connie Chiume has sent shock-waves throughout the industry, with many paying their respects to the actress.
The Chiume family confirmed her death on Tuesday afternoon, requesting privacy as they grieved her loss. In the family statement, they said Chiume died at Garden City Hospital. She was 72.
Legendary TV broadcaster Felicia Mabuza-Suttle was among the first to pay tribute to the actress as news of Chiume’s death spread.
In her caption, Mabuza-Suttle celebrated the former “Gomora” actress, calling her an “icon and legend”.
The former TV talk show host posted a clip of an interview from her talk show, where they discussed the plight of South African actors where Chiume was one of the guests.

Chiume, throughout her lengthy career, was vocal about actors being paid fairly by production companies for the work they do.
The multi-award winning actress had an illustrious career with roles on hit TV shows such as “Mohlolohadi”, “Yizo Yizo”, “Zone 14”, “Rhythm City”, “Housekeepers”, “Grassroots”, the Marvel movie “Black Panther”, and “Gomora”.
MultiChoice, which Chiume worked with and had a good standing relationship with, paid their tributes to the actress.
“Our deepest and sincerest condolences, to her family and loved ones, we will miss your sweet-smile, brilliance on screen and how you believed in mentoring the youth.”
