Service delivery top priority for new KZN Salga chairperson

Durban — Enhancing service delivery and strengthening municipalities is the main priority for newly appointed SA Local Government Association (Salga) chairperson Xolani Dube.

The association recently announced Dube as its new chairperson.

Salga KZN director Sabelo Gwala said that its KZN branch welcomed the new chairperson and believed that Dube’s experience and expertise will assist with Salga’s goals of service delivery enhancement across the province.

“Salga KZN welcomes the new chairperson, whose expertise and passion will be invaluable as we work towards improving local government services and fostering sustainable development. Together, we will strive to create resilient and vibrant communities across the province. we are confident that this contribution will significantly impact the quality of local governance and enhance the lives of the people of KZN,” Gwala said.

In a statement, Salga said Dube represents a diverse range of backgrounds and expertise. He is currently the mayor of Newcastle Municipality, portfolio chairperson for the budget and treasury office, and councillor of ward 18.

Salga said he was poised to drive forward the association’s mission to support and strengthen municipalities.

“His leadership will be instrumental in navigating the challenges faced by local governments and in implementing sustainable solutions that benefit both municipalities and communities at large,” read the statement.

Dube’s focus, it said, would be on strengthening local governance by enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency within municipalities.

He would also promote sustainable development by implementing innovative strategies to support economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social equity.

Dube would also build capacity by providing training and resources to empower local government officials and staff.

Salga KZN office is the voice of local government, lobbying and advocating on behalf of the 61 municipalities, 10 district municipalities and one metro based in the province.
