DURBAN - A man suspected to be behind the killing of a six-year-old girl in Inanda, north of Durban, has allegedly committed suicide.

Thiwe Masengeni’s body was found on the banks of the Inanda Dam last Tuesday, a day after going missing.

She and her eight-year-old sister had gone missing at about 3pm on Monday, March 2.

The suspect allegedly kept the two sisters undressed in the bush for the entire night.

Minutes after reliving the ordeal, Thiwe’s older sister, who escaped, showed her family and community the badly beaten body of her sister at the dam.

The police had opened a case of kidnapping and murder at the Inanda police station.

Thiwe’s body was sent to the state forensic pathology services to ascertain if she was raped.

KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, said a man was found hanging inside a house near the Inanda Dam. He was believed to be the suspect.

According to Inanda police, no arrest has been made in connection with the kidnapping and murder of the six-year-old girl.

“We can confirm that an inquest docket is being investigated by Inanda SAPS.”

“It is alleged that on March 9, the body of a 34-year-old man was found hanging inside the house at Ekuphakameni area in Inanda. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated,” said Mbele.
