DURBAN - A 44-year-old man who was found guilty of raping his 16-year-old daughter and sexually violating his other daughter is awaiting his sentence.
He appeared briefly in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court last week where the matter was adjourned until Thursday.
He cannot be named, to protect the identities of his daughters. The father had pleaded not guilty to rape and sexual assault in March but was found guilty on both charges at the beginning of this month.
According to the charge sheet, the KwaNdengezi man committed both criminal offences from 2016 to June 2019. He first appeared in court in February last year.
He was granted R5 000 bail two months after his arrest, one of the bail conditions being that he move to an alternative address and have zero contact with his daughters.
His defence was that the allegations were a fabrication by his children. He claimed one of them had been angry after he had brought his son a laptop.
In June, another 44-year-old man was sentenced to two life terms for the repeated rape of his two daughters.
The man, who has a speech and hearing impairment, raped his older daughter from the time she was five until she was 15, and he raped his daughter aged six on different occasions.
He raped them at night in their family home where they lived with his wife and their other children. He did this unbeknown to his wife, who is also speech and hearing impaired. Both children were initially afraid to report the matter.
The man denied the allegations throughout court proceedings.
Last week, the Pongola Regional Court sentenced a 50-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of his 10-year-old stepdaughter in March 2019 in the Ngome area near Vryheid.
