Cape Town - More than than 30 local teams will be competing in this year's highly anticipated Red Bull Box Cart Race.

Spectators will line up to witness cart-drivers take to the iconic streets of the Bo Kaap to be crowned the Red Bull Box Cart 2022 champions on November 6.

Over 60 teams of all levels, from amateur to experienced, have been carefully selected by judges to take on the colourful steep street of the Bo-Kaap.

The likes of Potjie Boytjies, Raging Bulls, Date Night Team and Brass Monkeys are among 31 teams that will be representing the Mother City in the competition where they are challenged to create non-motorised carts that can race down the slope the fastest.

The judges - Red Bull MotorSport Athlete Giniel de Villiers, Friends Of Red Bull (FORBs) - Skarra Ntubeni, Courtnaé Paul, and Nasty C among others -will not only be looking for speed, but creative elements in the carts.

Teams will have their driver skill and the craftsmanship of the box cart put to the test as one of the main sponsors, BFGoodrich has added a twist to the track with a cobblestones obstacle for racers and spectators to enjoy.

"I first competed in Red Bull Box Cart in 2018 for team Skull Candy -we had such a great time. We had everybody, from MMA fighters to professional Red Bull drivers and we still didn't make it down the track, but we had an amazing dance routine along with it. I am looking forward to all the teams that will be entering from Mr Delivery to Chisa Nyama. We will be at the most historic location in the Bo-Kaap, so I can't wait to see what all these teams will bring,” said Paul.

Over 120 Red Bull Box Cart races have taken place in all parts of the world since the first one in Brussels 22 years ago. This family-filled event has since attracted and hosted over 4 million spectators.

The Cape Town event, hosted by comedian Dalin Oliver alongside content producer Nadia Jaftha and commentary by Brian Emminis, is expected to be one for the books.

Red Bull Box Cart is in partnership with BF Goodrich, Good Hope FM, SABC 3, City of Cape Town and Top Gear.
